University of Queensland has been recognised for its leadership in tourism research.

UQ Business School is leading the way in tourism research and expertise, according to the latest Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) announcement.

Administered by the Australian Research Council, the ERA is a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of research in Australian universities using a combination of indicators and review by committees comprising experienced and internationally recognised experts.

Overall the School performed strongly in the 2015 assessment, ranking ‘well above’ or ‘above world’ standard in all areas of its research.

UQ Business School received the highest possible rating of five – ‘well above world standard’ – for research in the areas of Business and Management, Commerce, Management, Tourism and Services, Information Systems, and Tourism.

It also obtained the second-highest rating of four – ‘above world standard’ – for research in the fields of Accounting, Banking, Finance and Investment, and Marketing.

Especially notable is the result in Tourism research, which saw a dramatic rise from a 2012 rating of three, to a rating of five this year.

Tourism Cluster Leader, Associate Professor David Solnet said this result reflects the hard work, dedication and planning put in by past and present tourism academic staff, and the commitment of UQ and the Business School in supporting the tourism area.

“The ERA rating of five highlights that we are now recognised as the highest rated tourism research unit in Australia. UQ Business School has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring that the tourism discipline is among the best in the world, and has invested significant effort and resources to facilitate global leadership status,” he said.
