Despite having over 20 years of working experience behind her, Amanda Miller believes no professional pathway is complete without the knowledge and education that comes from a Master of Business Administration.
The Service Improvement Facilitator for Ergon Energy, who is currently studying an MBA at Torrens University, said her newfound knowledge has helped her shift her career in into new and exciting directions.
“The MBA has assisted me to bring together everything I have learnt over the past 20 years in my working career and elevated my skills, knowledge, and experience to the next, more strategic level,” Miller said.
Outside of work, Miller is a wife and mother of two, and a deep believer in surrounding herself with people in order to enjoy every second life has to offer.
“I love having a laugh and surrounding myself with happy people,” she said.
“In my workplace I want people to enjoy coming to work and I love to create a workplace that is fun to be a part of – after all, if you are going to be at work for one third of your day, you should enjoy doing it!
As a Service Improvement Facilitator for Ergon Energy, Miller spends her day exploring the intricate operations of the business to bring about customer and operational improvements.
“I love that I get to learn new things every day.
“It allows me to undertake complex problem solving that improves our internal process flow and most importantly, improves our customer’s experience.
“I wanted to give myself a competitive edge in the job market, so I decided it was time to bring together my 20 years of working experience with a Master’s Degree.
“I have undertaken tertiary study for most of my working career, however, I felt it was time to take things to the next level so I chose the MBA.
“I originally chose Chifley Business School [Torrens University] because they had a reputation as being one of the top business schools in Australia.”
Miller studies her MBA online, which gives her the flexibility to thrive at work and keep her family commitments while at the same time achieving distinctions and high distinction on all her MBA subjects to date.
“I love all of the leadership subjects. I’m passionate about people and I want people to enjoy coming to work.
“I believe strong leadership enables this to happen.”
Miller is due to complete her MBA at Torrens University at the end of 2018.
“Every person who works in business should do an MBA at some point in their career.
“Undertaking MBA level study while working allows you to apply the new knowledge you are acquiring on the job – so you get the most out of your study.
“It’s hard work, but it’s worth it in the end.”
