Griffith MBA Scores Global Ranking Recognition

Griffith Business School’s MBA program continues to receive accolades, earning a top-five place globally in the Corporate Knights 2018 Better World MBA ranking.

Griffith’s MBA this year earned the #4 spot worldwide – a 12-place improvement on its #16 result last year – in this year’s ranking, which compared 141 business schools from across 25 countries.

“This is a terrific testament to the quality of our MBA, the quality of the staff teaching on it and also the research that is going on across the School,” Pro Vice Chancellor (Business) Professor David Grant said.

In determining the top 40 MBAs to make the cut, Corporate Knights considered five key, differently weighted aspects of the schools’ operations.

These were: the number of institutes and research centres doing sustainable development research (10 per cent); the proportion of a school’s mandatory MBA courses that integrate relevant sustainable development themes (30 per cent); research publication and citation (50 per cent); and gender (5 per cent) and racial (5 per cent) diversity.

The significant weightings afforded to sustainable development themes and research undoubtedly assisted Griffith’s ascent up the ladder, with the University’s MBA program renowned for its adherence to socially responsible and sustainable corporate practices.

“We are delighted to have been ranked as #4 globally in this year’s Better World MBA ranking,” MBA acting director Dr Stephanie Schleimer said.

“Corporate Knights’ acknowledgment of the Griffith MBA’s commitment to sustainability, corporate social responsibility and diversity – and our place as the only Australian university to make the Top 40 in this area – is a welcome and appreciated affirmation that our priorities in this program are in the right place.”

Like sustainability, responsible leadership forms a fundamental part of Griffith’s MBA program, with the University teaming with The Courier-Mail’s Queensland Business Monthly in an annual scholarship to uncover the business world’s next generation of progressive, conscientious leaders.

This year’s Corporate Knights rankings were topped by the UK-based Warwick Business School, though the magazine expressed its congratulations to the entire field.

“This ranking shows which business schools are stepping up to the plate to unleash the power of business as a force for good in our world,” Corporate Knights Inc chief executive Mr Toby Heaps said in a statement.

“We applaud all of this year’s Top 40 Better World MBA school winners for their leadership.”

Established in 2002, Corporate Knights is a Toronto-based media and research company focused on ‘clean capitalism’, an economic system that incorporates social, economic and ecological factors.
