More International Students Choose Australia As Their Study Destination of Choice

Australia has become more popular than ever, as the study destination of choice for international students, according to a new report by IDP Connect.

The research, titled “Emerging Futures II“, found that Australia is now the second most popular destination for international students, behind Canada.

Since March 2022, the research shows that 1 in 4 international students are choosing Australia for study purposes, representing a 5 per cent increase in a matter of months.

What’s more, almost a third of the people surveyed said that Australia was the only study destination they were considering.

Andrew Wharton, Client Director, IDP Connect, said that the timing of this upturn is important for Australia’s international education providers, particularly since it signals improved perceptions of Australia in post-pandemic times.

“As we welcome students back, the opportunity for the Australian sector is to listen to what students want, which is clear career pathways and job opportunities during their studies, and to make sure their expectations are met when they arrive,” he said.

Several factors have contributed to Australia’s growing popularity as a study destination, including a belief by 62% of respondents that Australia is a “safe country for international students.”

Other key factors highlighted by the research include Australia’s “high quality of education”, its “good employment outcomes” and perceptions that the country is a “welcoming and supportive” destination.

Australia has long been a popular destination for international students, but this latest research suggests that the country is only going to become more popular in the years to come. With Australia offering a safe, welcoming environment, high-quality education and strong job prospects, it’s no wonder that more and more international students are choosing Australia as their destination of choice.
