Torrens University has capped a string of recent milestones with the commemorative launch of its new Adelaide campus.
Torrens recently announced a trifecta of new industry partnerships with the Real Madrid Graduate School, Chifley Business School and Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS). These collaborations follow the university’s partnership with New Zealand’s award-winning Media Design School, announced late last year.
Torrens University Vice Chancellor Professor Justin Beilby said these partnerships would result in a raft of new, industry-aligned courses being offered to students.
“Since welcoming its first cohort of students 18 months ago, Torrens University has celebrated an array of major milestones and key announcements, and these latest partnerships demonstrate the University’s ongoing commitment to innovation and collaboration with leading organisations and institutions to create courses which enhance the learning experience, employability and career progression of our students,” he said.
In an Australian first, the University’s partnership with Real Madrid Graduate School to deliver a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Sports Management, will earn its graduates a joint degree from both Torrens University and the Real Madrid Graduate School-Universidad Europea. The course will incorporate two weeks behind-the-scenes work experience with the renowned Real Madrid Football Club in Spain.
The collaboration with BMIHMS will also provide the opportunity for students to jointly undertake an MBA with Torrens University, delivering courses which integrate business strategy and management specific to the hospitality and hotel industry.
The University’s acquisition of the internationally recognised Chifley Business School (CBS) will leverage almost 20 years of experience, long-standing relationships with Professionals Australia and a 10,000+ network of alumni. The new Chifley Business School at Torrens University Australia will offer students an MBA and Master of Global Project Management, delivering a range of industry-aligned programs geared towards the professional leaders and innovators of tomorrow.
“Since programs commenced, we have seen our students work alongside and meet global leaders, undertake a full trimester of study abroad in Malaysia, embark on industry work-placements, secure graduate employment and career progression opportunities, and most recently – celebrating our first cohort of postgraduate graduands,” Professor Beilby said.
Dignitaries including The Hon. Christopher Pyne MP, Minister for Education and Training, Mr Martin Haese, Lord Mayor, The City of Adelaide and Mr Douglas Becker, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Laureate International Universities were in attendance to celebrate the commemorative launch of the Adelaide campus.
“The inspiration for creating Torrens University came from the rising importance of Asia and the vital role Australia plays in this region, together with the vision of building a new university uniquely designed for today’s students, integrating technology, flexibility, collaboration, global perspective and workplace skills in every aspect of learning,” Mr Becker said.
“It is incredibly gratifying to be here today to see this vision being brought to life at Torrens University Australia, to celebrate the significant accomplishments achieved in this short period of time, and to see firsthand the contribution this new University is making to enhance Australia’s credentials as a leading education hub in the Asia Pacific region.”
With a focus on flexibility, the new Adelaide campus in Wakefield Street will include learning spaces designed for collaboration, community interaction and industry engagement. Other features will include: open work areas, operable walls to quickly create different zones, a digital entry wall to stream live news, events and student work, and unique customisable ‘pods’.
In addition to the Adelaide campus, Torrens University has further expanded its presence in Australia with the opening of new campuses in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne – to the benefit of both local and international students, with the University welcoming its first on-campus international students this year.
