The University of Southern Queensland MBA on-campus and online is one of the largest postgraduate business programs in Australia and has been offered since 1990. The course is available on-campus at USQ’s Toowoomba campus, however, approximately 75% of USQ MBA students undertake the course by distance (online) education.

The USQ MBA is undertaken through the University’s Faculty of Business and Law and aims to enhance student analytical skills related to management, people, markets, finance, and technical knowledge. The program focuses on how to demonstrate leadership in global sustainability and how to understand the nature of ethical decisions across contemporary business practice.

Course Structure

The USQ academic year is separated into three semesters, commencing in February, July and November. To complete the USQ MBA students must complete 12 courses, comprising eight core units (four foundation and four non-foundation courses) and four elective units.

The standard MBA can be completed in 1.5 years, or up to six years in part-time mode. The core units include;

  • Accounting and Financial Management
  • Economics for managers
  • Managing Ogranisational Behaviour
  • Marketing management
  • Global Information Systems Strategy
  • Business Ethics and Sustainability
  • Project-Based Management
  • Leading Organisational Change

Specialisations are available in Digital Transformation, Finance, Global Business Management, Leadership, Project Management, Strategic Human Resource Management, Strategic Marketing, Sustainable Business, or General. The Master of Business Administration (Project Management) is delivered by USQ as a Global Registered Education Provider with the US-based Project Management Institute (PMI).

USQ is endorsed as a National Provider of Project Management education by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). The Master of Business Administration (Strategic Human Resource Management) is accredited by Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI). A student who successfully completes eight Master of Business Administration units may, upon application, exit with a Postgraduate Diploma of Business. Students who complete their MBA may also progress to the Doctor of Business Administration.

Entry requirements

Candidates for entry into the Master of Business Administration must meet each of the following criteria to the satisfaction of the Director of Coursework Studies:

  • a tertiary qualification at degree or equivalent level from a recognised institution
  • a minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent work experience.

Candidates who do not have a degree will be permitted to enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Business Foundation) only, provided that they have a minimum of three years full-time equivalent work experience, which includes relevant experience, as determined by the Director of Coursework Studies.

Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they will be eligible to articulate into the Master of Business Administration. Candidates who have a degree but do not have a minimum of 3 years full-time relevant professional work experience will be permitted to enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Early Career) only. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they will be eligible for entry into the Master of Business Administration.
