The UNSW Business School has appointed a new leader to take on the role of Deputy Dean and AGSM Director.
Professor Nick Wailes, architect of the online MBAX and the leader of many of UNSW Business School’s recent innovations for students, took on the role after working as the school’s Associate Dean of Digital & Innovation.
In his previous role Professor Wailes drove digital delivery of the curriculum in the Business School, the use of technology to increase opportunities for students (mentoring, internships, work-integrated learning) through platforms to deliver to thousands of students, and secured funding to establish an accelerator for student start-ups.
Prior to this, he was Director of the MBT (Master of Business, Technology) and AGSM Online which involved the development and launch of the very successful MBAX, UNSW’s online MBA which is currently ranked fourth in the world and number one in Australia by the Financial Times.
“For the past three years Nick has been Associate Dean (Digital & Innovation), leading many of the Business School’s strategic initiatives that are transforming the way we operate,”UNSW Business School Dean Chris Styles said.
“Nick also brings to the role extensive corporate engagement and networks.”
Before joining UNSW, Professor Wailes was at the University of Sydney Business School where he drove initiatives in the MBA market after the AGSM joint venture between UNSW and Sydney was dissolved. He was responsible for the development and launch of a Master of Management (now ranked 25 globally in the FT rankings), and the MBA.

The AGSM is a joint venture with the UNSW Business School in Sydney and is part of an initiative for MBA students helps deliver the school’s MBA programs and offers global top-tier general management, executive and leadership development programs.
Professor Wailes will take up the role on February 1, 2018, filling the space left by former Director Julie Cogin who has moved to the University of Queensland to become Academic Dean of UQ Business School.
